by Dawn Wysonowski

As a Floridian real estate agent, a Florida zip code map can wind of being your best friend. Even with the internet and all the advances in navigation technology, there’s something to be said for having a physical representation of your area in front of you. It helps you get a visual of the area you service and how large an area you can reasonably service.

Today’s high gas prices have an affect on many different industries, including real estate. A huge part of an agent’s job is traveling to open houses, going out to houses to get business, and carting drivers around to various homes. By using a Florida zip code map to get an idea of your service area, how many square miles it is, etc., you can figure out just how large of an area it makes sense to work.

There are plenty of Florida zip code maps available online, either for free or purchase. While getting a “free” anything is appealing to everyone, it’s a safe bet that a free zip code map isn’t going to be as detailed nor clear as one you can purchase for under $20. Most maps are available on a state or county level and clearly mark zip code boundaries throughout. Most will also include major roads and landmarks but not so many that the map is as totally cluttered and hard to read as an atlas.

Once you buy your Florida zip code map you can download it and print out as many copies as you’ll ever need. To save yourself time and gas when you’re out with your buyer clients, use the map and online resources. You can find and map out the quickest routes to the various homes you want to show so that you don’t have to drive in circle or double back on yourself.

Because a Florida zip code map shows zip boundaries, it’s also a handy way to find properties for you buyers’ within the school district they want. Simply ask if they have a preference, if they name a school district, research the zip codes that fall within that district and simply use the map to mark off properties that fall within that district. More often than not, the more “tools” your client sees you utilize, the more impressed they’ll be.

Use your Florida zip code map for prospecting as well. Prospecting, along with leads, is the lifeblood of an agent’s business. You can use the map to plot out which zip code you will prospect each week. Make sure you stick by your decision and get out there at MINIMUM 5 hours a week to prospect for new clients.

Last but not least, some zip code maps will mark off neat little landmarks, areas, parks, etc that may not show up on digital map sites. When it comes to impressing buyers, this could wind up winning you some brownie points. Regardless if you prefer to work strictly online with electronic data, or you prefer having hard copies of your data, a Florida zip code map can make your job much easier - if you know how to use it.
